Winery Tours and Tastings
When spring blooms in Northern Michigan, it’s a glorious time. Every May, the cherry blossoms bring a sweet fragrance to the air and fill the orchards with brilliant white color—in this, the Cherry Capital of the World. But this is also a great time to visit the numerous wineries in the Traverse City area. The steep slopes that hold moisture and the unique climate in this region are a recipe for producing some of the best wines in the country. The two peninsulas—Leelanau and Old Mission—are home to a variety of vineyards that are open to the public for tours.
Taking a wine tour in this region is such a treat. Not only can you experience the clean, fresh flavor of the unique wines, but from almost any winery, you have a spectacular view of Lake Michigan. There are no less than 32 vineyards in which to visit—many within just miles of each other. From stately mansions to old fashioned barns—the architecture you’ll encounter is as varied as the wines you’ll taste. The first weekend in May is the Annual Spring Sip and Savor Festival, where you can visit up to eight wineries on Saturday…finishing up on Sunday. Here is where you’ll have a chance to meet the people that make the wines you love. It makes for a wonderful spring outing with friends, as you enjoy the sights of this marvelous area in Northern Michigan
